The Dognapper (1934)

WALT DISNEY STUDIO
The Dognapper (1934)
original production animation drawing
green, blue and black pencil on untrimmed animation sheet, image size: 6" x 6"
This original final animation drawing of police officers Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck was created by a Disney Studio animator in production of the animated cartoon directed by Dave Hand, and a cel painting was made directly from it. Mickey and Donald pursue Peg Leg Pete, the villain who has snatched Minnie's "prize pooch" Fifi, into a dilapidated sawmill. Bill Roberts animated this scene of the heroes finding protection behind a band saw from a cannonball fired by Pete. Handwritten notes indicate the cel levels of the saw (4th) and the characters (2nd). "Roberts" (the animator's name) and "UM 27 Sc 31" (studio production and scene numbers) are written near the bottom. The animator wrote the number “10” at lower right to indicate this original's place in the scene.
